Tragic Pasig Fire: One Dead, 60 Families Displaced

A fire that engulfed a compound on Narra 1st Street and Acacia in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City, early Sunday morning resulted in one confirmed fatality and the displacement of 60 families.

The fire reached the second alarm and started around 3:47 a.m., before being declared under control at 6:23 a.m.

According to Fire Officer 3 Christopher Girao, a fire investigator from the Bureau of Fire Protection-Pasig (BFP), the blaze originated from the house of a 58-year-old resident.

It was recounted by the resident that they were out buying bread when the incident occurred. Extreme grief was expressed upon learning that their 19-year-old son, who had been left inside their home, had perished in the fire.

The affected families shared their experiences of loss and hardship. One resident, identified as Betita, mentioned that the house where the fire started had long been without electricity and had relied on electrical connections from neighboring houses. The overloading of these connections is believed to have caused the fire.

“The access to the site was difficult due to narrow alleys,” Girao explained, adding that the fire trucks were stationed far from the area, necessitating the use of long and multiple hoses to reach the fire's origin.

The fire, which destroyed 30 houses and affected an estimated 120 people, caused significant damages, the extent of which is still being assessed.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident and to quantify the losses.
