Iwag Festival: Pototan's Dazzling Lights Tradition

The annual Festival of Lights, known as the Iwag Festival, has once again illuminated Pototan, Iloilo, recognized as the Christmas Capital of Western Visayas.
Exquisite lights adorned the town during the festival's opening program on December 16, which included the ceremonial switch-on of Christmas decorations outside Pototan’s Municipal Hall, followed by a 15-minute fireworks display.
Nightly Christmas shows, competitions, and events will be held at the Pototan Astrodome from December 17 to January 2.
In the mid-1960s, colored bulbs were hung on trees in the town plaza by then Mayor Manuel "Quedo" Parcon to uplift the spirits of Pototan’s residents.

Decades later, a group of residents transformed Parcon's tradition into a festival named "Iwag," meaning light in Ilonggo.
