A teenage student was reported to have killed a fellow student and a teacher at a Wisconsin school on December 16, with the suspect later found dead at the scene, according to authorities.
The victims at Abundant Life Christian School were not publicly identified. At least six other individuals were reported injured, with two sustaining life-threatening injuries and four others having non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooter, identified as a 15-year-old girl, was found deceased inside the school, having used a handgun during the attack. No officers discharged their weapons during their response. The motive for the violence remains unknown, and the shooter's family is cooperating with the investigation.
Initially, it was stated that five fatalities occurred, but this information was later corrected. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes indicated that the shooting happened shortly before 11 a.m.
Gun control and school safety issues have gained prominence in the U.S., where 322 school shootings have been recorded this year, marking the second-highest total since 1966. The epidemic of shootings has affected both public and private educational institutions across various communities.
