The dismembered body of a police officer was discovered in Baguio City after being killed by a fellow officer at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
According to P/Maj. Hazel Asilo, spokesperson for the Southern Police District (SPD), it was admitted by the suspect, who is also a police officer, where the victim's remains had been taken after the shooting.
"In the suspect's statement, it was mentioned that after the victim
was shot, the body was dismembered, placed in a sack, and then transported to
Baguio for burial," Asilo stated.
The SPD confirmed that a body had been found in the identified location,
but it is still undergoing forensic examination to verify the details.
It was earlier reported that the suspect, who holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, surrendered to the Taguig Police on December 4. This followed reports of the victim’s disappearance, who was identified as a Police Executive Master Sergeant based in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
It was alleged that the victim had attended a convention in Metro Manila. According to the suspect’s testimony, the victim was allegedly caught in an intimate situation with the suspect’s wife, who is also a police officer.
"Based on the suspect’s statement, on the night of November 28, the
suspect caught his wife and the victim inside Camp Bagong Diwa, at the couple's
shared quarters," Asilo disclosed.
The suspect's wife, who was present during the crime, also surrendered to authorities and is being considered as an accomplice.
"Since she was there when the crime occurred and there was conspiracy—because instead of reporting the incident, they concealed it, even as the victim's family searched for him," Asilo explained.
The police are currently gathering evidence as the investigation
continues.
