DA Confirms, No Rice Shortage in the Philippines

The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Philippines confirmed on Saturday that there is no rice shortage, despite discussions about declaring a food security emergency. DA Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa emphasized that the supply is adequate, referencing Republic Act 12078, which allows for such a declaration only under conditions of supply shortage or significant price increases. He noted that while rice prices remain high, efforts are underway to lower them, including tariff reductions. The DA plans to address rising prices but insists there is sufficient rice supply in the country.
