Philippines Weather Update: Rainy Days Ahead

The weather bureau in the Philippines has reported that three weather systems will continue to bring rain to various parts of the country. These systems include the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a shear line, and the northeast monsoon (amihan).

  1. Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ): This system will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, and Palawan.

  2. Shear Line: This weather system is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to the Bicol Region, Quezon, Laguna, and Rizal.

  3. Northeast Monsoon (Amihan): This monsoon will result in cloudy skies with rains over the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Additionally, Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon will have strong winds and rough coastal waters, while the rest of Luzon will have moderate winds and moderate seas. The rest of the archipelago will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.

What are the expected effects of the ITCZ on agriculture in Mindanao and Eastern Visayas?
How will the amihan affect coastal communities in Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region?
What are the potential impacts of the shear line on transportation and travel in the Bicol Region?
