Only Ombudsman can suspend VP Sara Duterte: DOJ President

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has clarified that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. does not have the authority to suspend Vice President Sara Duterte. According to Justice Secretary Jesse Andres, only the Ombudsman has the power to suspend the Vice President. The Office of the President, he noted, can only suspend local government executives.

This clarification comes after Vice President Duterte made a controversial statement suggesting that someone would kill the First Couple and Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were assassinated. Duterte later explained that her statement was taken out of context and that the supposed act of revenge would only occur after her death, which she described as a conditional act without any immediate threat.
